Our latest tester is Paul Diskin. He has worked for the past 17 years in the IT industry as a senior technician. Paul has from Cerebral Palsy which mainly affects the muscles in his left hand. Cerebral Palsy is caused by abnormal development or damage to the parts of the brain that control movement, balance, and posture. It is defined as a group of permanent disorders of the development of movement and posture. This causes activity limitation, which is attributed to non-progressive disturbances that occurred in the developing fetal or infant brain. Symptoms that Paul suffers from include stiff muscles, weak muscles, and tremors. This affects his everyday life and has stopped him from being able to use generic video game controllers. He has struggled for many years to find a suitable controller despite trying many different brands available. Due to Paul’s condition, he needs a one-handed controller as he only has use of his right hand.
We went out to visit Paul with a test kit where we built several configurations that we thought would work for him. Paul experimented with these configurations to see which would suit him best. He decided that different configurations might work better for different games as he may not need as many buttons while playing certain games.
It has been great working with Paul and taking all his feedback on board. He has some really insightful information and ideas that have been a great help for us. We are looking forward to being able to help Paul solve his problem that he has had for many years and allowing him to play all the games he loves.
