This is our first blog post so we thought that we would share our story and why we decided to start our company ByoWave.
Our original team of four first got together at the Global Game Jam 2020 in Dublin. We spent 72 hours making our first game together and had so much fun we wanted to keep creating.
Due to a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and a nerve condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Eibhlin has to play games with one hand, but she has always struggled to find a controller that would work for her. She went to college to study Game Design in TU Dublin so she could make accessible games. She had always had dream of being able to design her own controller that would work for her, but never imagined that it would ever become a reality.
Brandon studied Biomedical Engineering in UCD and went on to to a masters in Computer and Electronic Engineering in UCD, where he met Louis and Maks. Brandon and Eibhlin were childhood friends from Galway in the West of Ireland.
Brandon always had dreams of creating a start-up when he left college. Eibhlin told Brandon about her problem of not being able to use controllers and how she dreamed of making her own. Brandon thought this was the perfect start-up idea! They could combine all of their skills to create an accessible controller that would help Eibhlin, and millions of other disabled gamers worldwide.
We had always wanted to create something meaningful that would make a difference in people’s lives. This has been the motivation behind all of our studies and is why we are so passionate about solving this issue.
We can’t wait to continue our journey to making accessible video game controllers, follow us here to keep up to date on how we get there!
